Save Bavasi from himself

I just read that Schilling might be down for the season. Maybe the Sox decide to get in on some Bedard action, since the O's can't seem to close the deal with the M's?

Rumors abound

Read a rumor on Detect-O-Vision about Roberts being included in the Bedard deal. Thoughts:

1. Not going to happen. Someone's just throwing things out there.
2. I wouldn't mind switching out Lopez for Roberts.
3. I'm going to miss Sherrill. I believe in selling high on middle relief, but it just means we're going to pay a washed up veteran way too much money to suck in front of Putz every night. That means longer innings for Putz, and more strain on his arm. If we could do any of this without trading Sherrill, I'd be happier.

Wait. What? Where am I?

Apparently keeping up the blog hasn't gone so well. I posted on another blogger blog, remembered that I had a blog, and decided to throw up an update ('blogger blog'? 'up an update'? I suck at writing).

So here's an update in a nutshell.

1. We overpaid for Silva big time.
2. Trading for Bedard isn't going to help us win in 2008/2009, and we're losing talent that will help us win in 2010 and beyond. You just can't get beyond the fact that our offense blows and our outfield defense is going to be painful to watch. Even our infield defense wasn't as good as it was supposed to be last year. Yeah, there's Ichiro, but he's playing in the middle of a couple of statues. And c'mon. Does anyone REALLY think Sexson and Vidro will be BETTER this year? Really? I mean, I'll give Lopez the benefit of the doubt; he's young. But Big Sexy and Turbo? I don't think they'll come close to what we need from them. And it's not like we're swimming with offensive stars on this team. It's going to be rough winning games.

Keep in mind I like Bedard; he's a great addition and a guy you'd like to have. But we're not going to the playoffs because we're adding him. The Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, and Tigers still own the AL. And Cleveland is going to be a team to reckon with. You could argue the Blue Jays are in decent shape too. But the M's fall just below that; with or without Bedard.
